Unpublished Research on Primary Spiritual Arenas - "The Spirituality of U.S. Pastoral Clinicians "A 1988 doctoral (D. Min.) project surveyed over 2,000 certified professional chaplains, clinical pastoral educators and pastoral counselors regarding their convictions about spirituality and their self-assessment of how they had experienced the 35 primary spiritual arenas through the eras of their own personal and professional lives. Research Efforts (and an Invitation)

Research on Spiritual Needs - Initial, unpublished studies on 8 of the spiritual needs and their related chaplain functions (interventions) were completed at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma WA. Call 253-565-4992 to obtain the study results or to contribute to funding in order to design and implement  comprehensive, professional research studies.  

Published Research on Spiritual Skills A study published in Reflective Practice: Formation and Supervision in Ministry  (vol. 32), measured how summer students in an initial unit of accredited*  Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E.)  programs in ten US hospitals grew in spiritual skills. Power point presentations are available of workshops on this topic at the 2009 Joint annual meeting in Orlando or one at the 2012 APC annual meeting in Chicago.
